The Wakering and District Natural History Society maintain the osiers at the edge of Wakering Common. Each year we cut back every 3rd osier so that there is some fresh new growth and the osiers never get too old and woody. Our workparty this year met on 5th February and we had a record number of members who turned up to help - 8 in all. This meant that we finished the job more speedily than usual and we all then had a good natter over coffee and biscuits. The osiers are left at the edge of the Common for a few weeks so that anyone that wants to help themselves to pea sticks etc. have the chance to do so. A group will meet again in early March to remove what is left.
